A thriving town of about 90,000 people just across the bridge from downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant is on several “best places to live” lists and for good reason. From our beautiful beaches and mild climate to the plethora of shopping and dining options. Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is not just a great place to be, but a wonderful place to raise a family.
History
Mount Pleasant is steeped in history. The earliest known inhabitants in this area are members of the Sewee Tribe, who lived along the Santee River before English colonizers settled here in the late 1600s. As part of South Carolina, one of the original thirteen colonies, Mount Pleasant has been a part of America since the very beginning.
In fact, Charles Pinckney, one of America’s Founding Fathers and a principal author of the U.S. Constitution, was from nearby Charleston and owned two properties in Mount Pleasant, including a 715-acre plantation known as Snee Farm. Today, 28 of those acres make up the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site where people can learn about its history and its significance to the rest of the state and country.
Outdoors
Surrounded by water with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Wando and Cooper Rivers to the west Mount Pleasant is in the heart of the Lowcountry. This beautiful area is known for its wide range of outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking, as well as its world-famous resort destinations like Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island. And with its mild climate, residents and visitors can take advantage of these outdoor activities all year long.
