Children’s Discovery Center Recognized for Excellence

Mount Pleasant, SC – Children’s Discovery Center, a local childcare center with two locations in Mount Pleasant, received three new awards in 2016. The center was named “Mom’s Choice for Best Pre-School” by Lowcountry Parent and “Charleston’s Choice for Best Daycare” by The Post and Courier. Most recently, the center received the “Best Child Care” designation by Mount Pleasant Magazine’s Best of Mount Pleasant Awards.

“Anytime you are recognized for what you do as a business it’s an honor,” said Lois Rosenberry, president and CEO of the Children’s Discovery Center. “But to be honored for the love and commitment we provide our children is a true testament to our team’s hard work and dedication to our mission.”

One year after Children’s Discovery Center opened its doors at the corner of Venning Road and Highway 17, it was named the 2014 “Mom’s Choice for Best Daycare” by Lowcountry Parent and quickly started a waiting list due to high demand from local families. As demand for the center’s childcare program grew, a second location was built to serve the Park West neighborhood and surrounding communities in northern Mount Pleasant.

“Our main objective is to continue to provide quality childcare to our families and their children through an educational philosophy unlike any other in the area,” said Rosenberry. “Receiving these accolades is wonderful but the ultimate thank you is being able to watch our children grow and thrive.”

Children’s Discovery Center Opens Second Lowcountry Location

Mount Pleasant, SC – Children’s Discovery Center opened its doors to a second location in Park West Wednesday, Sept. 9. Located at 3300 Stockdale Road in the growing Park West community, the new 12,000 sq. ft. center accommodates children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The center’s interior designs ensure consistency in implementation of the Inspired Approach to Learning.

“We are excited to offer Lowcountry families an additional option for exceptional child care,” says Lois Rosenberry, founder and CEO of Children’s Discovery Center. “We are thankful to see growing success at our Venning Road center, and we are hopeful to see the same growth at our new Park West location.”

The center mirrors the same floor plan of the Venning Road location including children’s museum exhibits, a replica of the Ravenel Bridge and Charleston décor throughout the classrooms that reflect the local community, culture and surroundings. The Park West center also offers music, art and Spanish lessons weekly, and separate spaces for young infants, toddlers and preschool/pre-K students.

Children’s Discovery Center bases its methods and practices of early education on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy that empowers children and promotes physical, emotional, creative and intellectual growth. This refined approach to learning encourages children to use their 100 languages to see, touch, and do – to draw, paint, weave, plant, write, take photos, sculpt in clay and more. Children’s Discovery Center was the first to bring this educational philosophy to the Lowcountry when it opened its Venning Road center in 2013.

Children’s Discovery Center Announces Opening of Second Location

Children’s Discovery Center will open its second location in Park West this summer. Located off Stockdale Road in the growing Park West community in northern Mount Pleasant, the new 12,000 sq. ft. center will accommodate children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Clearing of the land began earlier this year and construction on the new building is expected to begin this month.

“We’re grateful to have had so much success with our Venning Road center and continued to see a growing need for child care in the Mount Pleasant area,” says Lois Rosenberry, founder and CEO of Children’s Discovery Center. “We’re excited to offer Lowcountry families two options for high quality child care.”

The center will mirror the same floor plan of the Venning Road location, including children’s museum exhibits and a replica of the Ravenel Bridge, as well as other tools and décor throughout the classrooms that reflect the Charleston community, culture and surroundings. It will offer music, art and Spanish lessons weekly, and separate spaces for young infants, toddlers and pre-school/pre-K students.

Originated in Toledo, Ohio, and recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 child care providers, Children’s Discovery Center bases their methods and practices of early education on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy that empowers children and promotes physical, emotional, creative and intellectual growth. Their refined approach to learning encourages children to use their 100 languages to see, touch, and do – to draw, paint, weave, plant, write, take photos, sculpt in clay and more. Children’s Discovery Center was the first to bring this educational philosophy to the Lowcountry when it opened its Venning Road center in 2013.

Children’s Discovery Center Named “Mom’s Choice”

cdctrophyChildren’s Discovery Center, a Mount Pleasant child care center, was recently named “Mom’s Choice” by Lowcountry Parent magazine.

Mount Pleasant, SC – Children’s Discovery Center has been named the 2014 Lowcountry Parent Mom’s Choice Award winner for best daycare. With hundreds of child care providers in the Lowcountry this is certainly a noteworthy accolade for the Mount Pleasant child care provider. Children’s Discovery Center has quickly made a name for itself as a quality child care provider since opening its doors just last summer.

“It’s a tremendous honor being voted among the Lowcountry’s top businesses, services and establishments,” says Katie Carter, director of the Mount Pleasant center. “We’re thrilled to have established a reputable child care center within the past year and are thankful for the parents who choose to entrust us with their children.”

Children’s Discovery Center’s presence is unique to the area and bases our methods and practices of early education on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy that works toward empowering children and encouraging physical, emotional, creative and intellectual growth. Our refined approach to learning encourages children to use their 100 languages to see, touch, and do – to draw, paint, weave, plant, write, take photos, sculpt in clay and more. ABOUT CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY CENTER
Children’s Discovery Center is a premier early child care and education provider that respects the child, encourages learning through exploration, and supports the family within a creative, nurturing and Christian environment. Children’s Discovery Center began 30 years ago in Toledo, Ohio and is recognized as one of the top 50 child care providers in the country.

Past Year Brings National Growth for Toledo-Based Child care Provider

With more than three decades of experience nurturing and teaching children in the Toledo area, Children’s Discovery Center expanded its operation outside of the Ohio market. This past August, the nationally ranked Top 50 child care provider opened a 12,000-square foot facility in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – a suburb of the admired Southern city of Charleston, South Carolina.

The new location sets the pathway for the Ohio-based provider to become a national child care provider. Located less than 15 miles from downtown Charleston, the center becomes the corporation’s eighth location, with the other seven covering the Toledo market.

Each of the company’s centers feature distinctive interior design and local elements. The South Carolina location is no different, including sea-life themes and Lowcountry decorations. This particular center also features a replica of the iconic Cooper River Bridge – a life-size structure inside the center’s discovery room that serves as a focal point of the center and a play area for children.

Groundbreaking for the center was held in early spring of last year and by August, the center was welcoming children and families. The center has capacity to serve nearly 200 children between the ages of 6 weeks to 5 years old.

“We knew growth outside the Toledo area was in our future,” says Lois Rosenberry, the company’s founder and CEO. “When the opportunity to expand to Charleston presented itself, we knew immediately it was the perfect place to start our national footprint.”

Rosenberry attributes part of the selection process of the new location to Charleston’s economic growth and an obvious need for high-quality child care providers. All signs pointed to the fact that the need was there.

“We were at capacity almost immediately after opening our doors,” explains Katie Carter, the South Carolina center’s director. “With the relocation of Boeing to the area and the area’s constant growth, it was obvious very quickly how much the community appreciated us opening our doors.”

Just like each center in the Ohio market, the South Carolina facility offers the world-renowned Reggio Emilia educational philosophy. Notably, Children’s Discovery Center was the first to bring the award-winning structure to the SC community.

With state-of-the-art security and technology, Children’s Discovery Center utilizes video conferencing across hundreds of miles to provide training, consulting and oversight. Rosenberry says its imperative that a model be followed in order to guarantee a quality educational environment to parents and families.

“Our team in Ohio has been doing this for more than 30 years,” says Rosenberry. “Consistency is huge for me so it’s important that our team up here stay closely connected to our team in South Carolina.”

“We want to ensure that our families in South Carolina experience the same level of care that our Ohio families have experienced for so many years.”

Children’s Discovery Center began in 1982 in Maumee and employs more than 150 people, serving 1,400 children. The center’s administration also runs Discovery Express School, a chartered non-public school located in Holland that offers kindergarten through 4th grade.
