Children’s Discovery Center Announces Opening of Second Location
Children’s Discovery Center will open its second location in Park West this summer. Located off Stockdale Road in the growing Park West community in northern Mount Pleasant, the new 12,000 sq. ft. center will accommodate children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Clearing of the land began earlier this year and construction on the new building is expected to begin this month.
“We’re grateful to have had so much success with our Venning Road center and continued to see a growing need for child care in the Mount Pleasant area,” says Lois Rosenberry, founder and CEO of Children’s Discovery Center. “We’re excited to offer Lowcountry families two options for high quality child care.”
The center will mirror the same floor plan of the Venning Road location, including children’s museum exhibits and a replica of the Ravenel Bridge, as well as other tools and décor throughout the classrooms that reflect the Charleston community, culture and surroundings. It will offer music, art and Spanish lessons weekly, and separate spaces for young infants, toddlers and pre-school/pre-K students.
Originated in Toledo, Ohio, and recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 child care providers, Children’s Discovery Center bases their methods and practices of early education on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy that empowers children and promotes physical, emotional, creative and intellectual growth. Their refined approach to learning encourages children to use their 100 languages to see, touch, and do – to draw, paint, weave, plant, write, take photos, sculpt in clay and more. Children’s Discovery Center was the first to bring this educational philosophy to the Lowcountry when it opened its Venning Road center in 2013.
